For a communicating Trane system, keep the Trane thermostat or use an approved interface. That's not a brand loyalty thing. It's a compatibility thing.

Which One Should You Buy?

If you need a 25-ton rooftop unit, compare the full system: equipment, controls, warranty, parts availability, and service response time. Trane won our comparison because the local service network and warranty fit our building. Carrier is a strong product, and in a different region with a different contractor, Carrier could easily be the right answer.

Don't let anyone tell you one brand is always better. Let me rephrase: don't believe anyone who says 'always.' The building, the climate, and the maintenance team matter more than the nameplate.

One last thing: quality affects how clients see your company. The first thing a visitor feels when they walk in is the air. If the HVAC can't hold temperature, if the dehumidifier doesn't dry the space, if the thermostat is confusing—that says something about your operation. That's not a reason to overspend. It's a reason not to underspend.

I don't remember the exact efficiency rating on the final Trane quote. What I remember is the lesson from 2023: the lowest number on the quote isn't the lowest cost. Use the comparison, check the warranty, and make sure the contractor knows how to install what they're selling.
